As you all know, we are going to celebrate our country’s independence this Wednesday on July 4th. We have the privilege of living in the best country in the world! We are so used to living here and enjoying the individual rights that millions of people in other countries are not able to experience; these rights and freedoms have become such an everyday part of our lives that we sometimes find it easy to take them for granted. I don’t think it is so much taking them for granted as it is just normal life and what we know and are used to. It’s comfortable. It’s what most of us have known from our birth and growing up in the United States. But there are millions of people every year who try to come to this country and become citizens to enjoy these freedoms and rights.
So we need to just take some time to be more appreciative of the amazing country in which we live.
This week, take a few minutes to think about the freedoms that we all enjoy and how our lives could be different if our forefathers had not created the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Do we take time to appreciate the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech (even the campaign advertisements), the right to vote for whichever candidate we choose and the fact that we have different candidates to vote for, the educational opportunities in our country, the freedom to own and operate our businesses, and the seemingly unlimited goods and services available to us, just to name a few.
This is also a day off for most of us. That alone is something to be appreciative of.
So…enjoy your holiday…and your freedoms and rights!
