Leadership is the foundation to our success. Leadership is influence. How do you know if you are a good leader, or even a great leader? In simple terms, you turn around and see who’s following you. So, who is following you?
For each person in your company, if you were to answer this question, what would it be? Given what I now know about this person, if I were given the chance to rehire them: I would or I would not. The answer to that question will give you some insight into how you’re doing as a leader. If you don’t like your answers, what are you going to do about that? If you like your answers, then the next action needs to be what steps you’re going to take in delegating more responsibility to these leaders. If you are attending GROW! 2016, that at least shows a willingness on your part to learn and to delegate. To get to Dallas, you have to let others do the work while you are gone.
If you aren’t coming to GROW! 2016 and it’s truly because you don’t think someone else can drive the snow plow, handle a sales call, or lead a team on a jobsite, you really have to think about your future.
Leadership is the difference maker. Specifically, your ability to get others to do what you want them to do and still have them love you. Yes, love you—a word not too many landscapers seem to want to say.
